Philadelphia School District’s Mayfair Middle School provides groundbreaking construction industry program for students

Recently our VP of operations Greg Laska visited students enrolled in Mayfair Middle School’s Career Technical Education (CTE) program and appeared in their construction industry-themed podcast, Dope Students Podcast, to share his experience in the commercial construction industry.

This School District of Philadelphia program is led by building trades instructor Evin Jarrett, who later this summer will host a summer camp where students will build a miniature house in the school’s parking lot. The school already has some donated materials including those needed for the building’s foundation, and they are looking for donations of other construction materials from industry professionals who wish to partner with them.

Congrats to Mayfair Middle School and the Philadelphia School District for this fantastic and urgently needed opportunity that serves both their students and an industry that will be providing well-paying highly-skilled jobs well into Greater Philadelphia’s future.

See this link for GBCA’s coverage of this exciting project including the podcast as well as contact information for Evin Jarrett.

Several additional events surrounding this program are planned including providing an opportunity for the students to visit to Philadelphia’s Finishing Trades Institute of the Mid-Atlantic Region, the official training provider of District Council #21 that educates and trains apprentices and journeypersons in commercial glazing as well as numerous other trades.
