A Little History...

For over 23 years, Graboyes Commercial Window Company has worked to achieve a 50:50 ratio between our work as a prime contractor, direct for owners, and our work as a subcontractor, working for major and smaller general contractors. In addition, 50% of our work has traditionally been performed in the high end occupied commercial spaces; the balance of our experience is on new construction sites and historic renovation projects.

Graboyes has our own in house estimating department, directed by Bill Steedle, with 29 years experience in commercial window sales and estimating; our own in house architectural department, producing all of our shop drawings and installation detailed sketches; our own in house field engineers, responsible for all field dimensioning and performance applications; and our own in house project management team which successfully provides oversight to multiple projects. Graboyes is completely computerized on Timberline Construction/job costing system. This combination of resources allows us to anticipate conditions in order to minimize the need for change orders and schedule extensions. Graboyes generally performs all of our work with all of our own forces. We occasionally subcontract demolition, caulking and painting work, under special situations.

Graboyes’ installation experience in high occupied spaces, has prepared our project managers for most of the scheduling challenges. We understand the sensitivity required to minimize disruption. Our new construction experience focuses all of our personnel on the importance of coordinating with the other trades on a job site.

Graboyes is a union contractor, signatory with both the carpenters and glaziers unions. We have actively participated in both union apprenticeship programs for many years, recruiting and training minorities and female apprentices. Our dual union affiliations allow us to handle increased manpower demands when they occur. Several of our foremen have the capability to project manage, while several of our estimators are also qualified to design shop drawings on CAD. This flexibility allows us to meet the ever changing needs of our customers.

Graboyes’, unique position as a certified WBE owned union contactor with significant minority field mechanics, has provided us the opportunity to work on hundreds of local and state government jobs over the last 23 years. Also, our reputation for “white glove” installation excellence has made us the window contractor of choice for dozens of condominiums, universities, hospitals, and office buildings.

This varied field experience has exposed our staff to all types of construction challenges. We excel at fast track projects, having never missed a completion deadline. We also understand multiple mobilizations, as much of our new construction work is done in phases.

Graboyes was the first window installation company to implement a full safety program 18 years ago. All of our mechanics have completed OSHA certified safety classes, as well as CPR. Several of our key field personnel are also trained in lead and asbestos removal techniques. Many of our Journeymen also take continuing education courses at the Carpenters Union and District Council 21’s training centers.

We also employ a risk management consultant that meets with each job crew at the start of significant jobs to review safety requirements. Weekly safety meetings are held on every job site.

In 2001, Graboyes Commercial Windows Company received GBCA’s Building Excellence Award for Best Specialty Contractor, in recognition of our LOEWS-PSFS project.
